homemade pizza

Recipe of the Month: Pizza! Because… pizza.

Did someone say “pizza”?

Did you know National Pizza Day is coming up on February 9th??

Did you also know that making homemade pizza is not nearly as difficult as you think?

Recipe of the Month: Homemade Pizza

– a ball of dough from your favorite pizza shop (yup, they will sell it to you for about 3 bucks) or grocery store
– flour for rolling dough
– 1/2 cup pizza sauce
– shredded mozzarella and/or provolone cheese
– dried Italian herbs
– your favorite toppings

Notice that there are no measurements here for sauce, cheese, herbs, and toppings. That’s because there are no rules. If you want extra cheese, add extra cheese!

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Sprinkle a handful of flour over a countertop or large cutting board. Place a grapefruit sized ball of dough on surface and roll to desired thickness with a rolling pin. Mommom always made hers about 1/4″.

Press rolled dough into a greased and floured cookie sheet.

Add about 1/3 cup of pizza sauce, top with 1/2 shredded cheese(s). Sprinkle with dried Italian herbs.

Bake for 9 to 12 minutes or until the cheese is melted with a few golden brown spots and the edges/bottom of the crust are golden brown.

Remove the pizza from the oven and let set 5 minutes. Transfer to a cutting board, cut into squares and serve immediately with some parmesan cheese, garlic powder, or olive oil.
